This is a digital collage piece called “Afternoon at the Art Gallery”. My goal was to make this piece feel like a scene from an eccentric illustrated story, something between a surrealist painting, a vintage children’s book illustration and a museum dream sequence. I introduced a soft focus into the art and a somewhat de-saturated pallet to give the image a vintage photograph quality. Making it feel like a remembered scene, almost like a frame from an imaginary historical film.
Different artistic languages coexist within the frame, almost as though the museum is an archive of different realities. I positioned the woman at the center making her the narrative anchor and because she is walking away from the viewer, we don’t get a clear psychological portrait of her. Instead, she becomes somewhat anonymous, a guide leading us into the unknown. Making the scene read as the imagination is walking through the museum of human civilization and it refuses to stay inside the frames making the impossible elements challenge the boundary between what we perceive as art and what we experience as reality.

This artwork is available as a fine art print at Pictorem through this link.
